Hello Beautiful people and welcome to Box-office Africa where it's all Nollywood, motion Pictures, locally and globally.

March has been quite an interesting month marked with some Box-office releases, but we are gonna be talking about this new movie coming from the Stables of Ruth Kadiri movie.

It is Titled Walls Apart, a movie with a very fascinating but concise cast.

Synopsis

The story is all about family responsibility and obligations, duty and commitment.

It tells the story of a young and pampered daughter of a divorcee seeking the understanding of his daughter in his pursuit of love and fulfillment.

Cast

Ruth Kadiri has mastered the art of using a lean cast and fewer locations in all her movies.

Walls Apart was no exception, below is a roll call of the rather small yet ensemble cast that held sway in this new movie.

Lanre, played by Chidi Dike.

He is an illegitimate son who traces the origin of his mysterious birth to Dare, and ultimately Amanda’s half-brother to the chagrin of the latter.

He is courageous, reserved, and good-natured, even with all the extreme provocations thrown his way by Amanda, he manages to keep his cool.

Amanda, played by Anabel Apara.

She is the pampered and spoilt daughter of his father.

A covetous and greedy individual who craves the attention of her father in quite an unconventional way.

She is narcissistic, really naughty, and could even be regarded as devious.

Dare, played by Scott Roberts.

He is a loving and caring single father who dotes on his daughter to the point where his love for her supersedes everything.

He is so dutiful, and wouldn't hesitate to pick sides with his daughter in the bid to protect her from the many dramas associated with his female partners.

Andrea is played by Vivian Gabriel.

A smart, dedicated, and meticulous lady.

She is in a romantic relationship with Dare, Amanda’s dad, she also ensures she carries the latter’s spoilt brat of the daughter along, despite her many infantile innuendoes.

Her calm demeanor and wisdom help her navigate through the treachery and childish whims of Amanda.

Priscila played by Miriam Cole, was the sixth woman in Dare’s life. Unfortunately for her, she became a victim of one of Amanda’s evil schemes in the opening part of the movie.

The characters Louisa, Oscar, and the lady who played the role of Amanda’s estranged aunt; were not cast for reasons best known to the Producer/Executive producer of the flick- Ruth Kadiri.

Plot & Story

The story revolves around filial responsibility and the excessive love parents shower on their kids that could result in these kids becoming entitled to the point where a parent might be placed in a precarious situation.

Amanda in this case became too obsessed with having her father’s love and couldn’t stoop to the point of understanding the difference between the love of a parent from that of a man and his spouse, and vice versa.

The plot was a simple and prevalent one where single fathers most especially find it difficult to find love outside the approval of the kids they had before.

I believe the story was adapted from the 1990 American classic movie - Problem Child, starring Michael Oliver who was cast as Junior the Problem Child, in this context Amanda, and the late John Ritter, who played the role of Healy Jr, the father of Junior, and in the case of this movie, Scott Roberts.

It showcases the psychological intricacies of building complex relationships when one person feels trapped in the web of love and dedication and wouldn’t want to share it with others he or she refers to as usurpers.

Character Development and Performance:

Chidi Dike did improve his art this time, his character Lanre was properly depicted.

He has been roundly criticized for being overly complacent and stereotyped with his roles as a romance-only actor, he is also known to stay within safety limits to the point where he sticks to the script without inculcating some out-of-the-box improvisations to add depth to his character.

Here he tried to move in between transitions and worked hard to interpret his character without negating the true significance of the role.

I’d daresay Chidi has improved a lot, I believe he is gradually growing into the roles he plays.

Anabel Apara who I’d say was the lead cast here ensured she gave the right temperament that defines the personality of Amanda, a rude, mischievous, and attention-craving spoilt little brat, with the disposition of a suckling baby.

Just like Junior in the movie Problem Child, she utilized what I could regard as “scare tactics” to put away potential life partners for her distraught dad.

Anabel is one of the promising upstarts breaking even in the industry, she practically conveyed the character to the amazement of the viewers.

Still very much within her formative years, like Chidi, I also see her maturing into the characters she plays in the movies she has so far appeared.

Scott Roberts remains one of the OG’s in the game, I believe he is back from wherever he went to, the industry hasn’t seen his face in a while, I think he could go on to become a regular after this movie.

What do you think my people?

Is Scott Roberts worthy of more competitive roles after his comeback?

Vivian Gabriel was truly a remarkable character, this is my very first time watching her in any movie, her character Andrea was an interesting and necessary addition needed to enliven the plot.

She was witty, very practical, and savvy, I mean I loved how she played a detective on the set of the movie stylishly uncovering the cynical plots of our little brat Amanda.

The other characters Louisa and Oscar, were omitted in the credits, notwithstanding had a goos showing in the movie.

Visuals and Cinematography

The night scenes most specifically the one where Lanre rescued Amanda from thugs had proper lighting, I loved the overall softness and well-captured shots should be commended.

The Camera angles were not too dramatic, because Ruth Kadiri from what I know is not overambitious with pushing the envelope beyond the traditional cinematic experiences of all her movies.

The D.O.Ps Odunlami Odediran & Salawu Toheeb delivered a well-ensembled camera angle that never got your eyes bored from watching the movie in its entirety.

Soundtrack & Sound Design:

Nollywood is growing and the fact that movie producers now take the audio aspect of the production chain seriously needs to be commended.

I know the movie should have done more in terms of the audibility of its scenes, I would say the sound design and score sounded minimal and good for this outing.

Theme & Message

The deep meaning and essence of a parent’s love for his child were properly captured in this movie.

Understanding your spouse, and accepting their previous baggage is a key ingredient to a lasting relationship, Andrea was so mature about this, she used her ingenuity to figure out who Amanda was, and with that, she was able to preserve the relationship between father and daughter, while staying relevant in the grand scheme of things.

Summary:

Wall Apart is a good movie, I find it strange though that the plot from whence it was adapted was so similar that you couldn’t but notice the similarities.

I loved the conciseness of the cast, Ruth has mastered the art of using fewer cast to pull off good movies every week, the interesting thing is that these movies are doing good numbers on YouTube,.

As per rating, the movie gets a 5.5 out of 10.

Till we meet in the next one- ciao.

The age-long covetous nature of man would always stand in the way of his advancement, Anabel remained very selfish and opinionated, she learned her lesson albeit in a hard way..

Again, thanks for watching till we meet in the next one- ciao.
